Jardin Botanico, Medellin

Medellin´s Botanic Gardens, and the surrounding district, have undergone extensive renovation and remodelling in recent years. The Orchideorama at the Botanic Gardens has been widely published, and has successfully re-orchestrated the way visitors enter and experience the gardens.
Visually the structures are beguiling, and the huge scale frames views up to the mountains encircling the city. Functionally, they create a vast shady area centred on the cafe, amenities, entry and central meeting point. The gardens themselves noticably filter the city´s air - the difference between inside and out is palpable. In such a vast city the Orchideorama makes the Botanic Gardens an even more inviting destination. On a typical midweek visit school groups, an aged care group, overseas tourists and locals were all out and about.
