Barefoot in the Park

Parque de los Pies Descalzos, or Barefoot Park, was named after the spontaneous reaction of children when they first visited. It´s centrally located in Medellin, and adjacent to the headquarters of the Public Utilities Department, the department responsible for the recent investment in high quality public open spaces and institutions.

This images show children using the climbing posts, and families enjoying the popular (and extremely welcome!) footbath. The seating steps are constantly filled with people seeking a brief respite from the heat by dipping their feet into the cool shallow water. Park attendants were keen to show newcomers the jets which direct massaging bubbles onto the back of the legs.
